Early Years Foundation Stage

Our Curriculum

We follow the Government’s Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) framework, setting standards for learning, development, and care for children from birth to 5 years of age. Our children learn through real experiences, spending ample time outdoors in our all-weather space. We encourage child-led activities where children can make discoveries and learn at their own pace.

Early Years Learning

Our activities promote learning through both Adult-Led and Child-Initiated activities:

  • Adult-Led activities include phonics, handwriting, reading, and circle time.
  • Child-Initiated activities include role play, sand and water play, and problem-solving tasks like puzzles.

We are committed to giving children the space to grow into their unique personalities while helping them achieve key developmental milestones.

Purpose and Aims

Using the Early Years Foundation Stage, we help children achieve the five Every Child Matters outcomes:

  1. Staying safe
  2. Being healthy
  3. Enjoying and achieving
  4. Making a positive contribution
  5. Achieving economic well-being

Core Principles

The EYFS framework is grounded in four key principles:

  • A Unique Child: Every child is a capable learner, resilient, and self-assured.
  • Positive Relationships: Children thrive in secure, loving relationships with parents and key carers.
  • Enabling Environments: A supportive environment plays a crucial role in extending children’s development and learning.
  • Learning and Development: Children learn in different ways and at their own pace. We offer activities that are tailored to each child’s individual development and needs.

Caring for Your Child

Every child is unique, and we aim to get to know both you and your child well, ensuring they feel cared for, secure, and happy. We want your child to enjoy their early years, developing at their own pace and reaching their full potential.

Our dedicated staff provide rich, play-based experiences that support learning and development. We use a ‘key person’ approach to ensure that your child develops strong, secure relationships with our staff.

Key person System

Each child is assigned a ‘key person’ who is responsible for their care, learning, and development. They will get to know your child’s needs and preferences and maintain close relationships with you, the parents. In case of absence, a secondary ‘key person’ will take over to ensure continuity of care.
